26 Jan WSU Shoot Around and Awareness Game
A Shootaround That Meant So Much More
The SLAMT1D x WSU Women’s Basketball Shootaround and Awareness Game was a huge success—and more importantly, a meaningful one. The entire WSU women’s basketball team and staff spent time on the court connecting with families and kids living with T1D, turning a simple shootaround into something unforgettable.
More than 60 people attended, including 27 kids along with parents, siblings, and friends. Laughter echoed through the gym as baskets were made, high-fives were shared, and real connections were formed between athletes and families who understand the daily realities of life with T1D.
For many kids, meeting and shooting hoops with Ellie was especially powerful. Seeing someone living with T1D compete—and thrive—at the highest level of college athletics sent a clear message: T1D doesn’t have to limit big dreams. Ellie’s journey showed these kids that success is possible, on and off the court, no matter the challenges they face.
Events like this are why partnerships like SLAMT1D and WSU Women’s Basketball matter. They create moments of encouragement, visibility, and community for families navigating T1D—and they remind kids that they’re not alone.
