Rochambeau Middle Schoolers Hoop it Up, Dance and Walk to Help Kids with T1D

Rochambeau Middle School in Southbury, CT is going all-out to raise awareness and educate its community about T1D, a lethal life-changing autoimmune disease for which there is currently no cure. Between 250-300 students will fundraise and participate in 3-on-3 basketball, dance and a walk on Tuesday, March 17, 2015.

Geri Ristow, Phys Ed teacher at Rochambeau and key organizer for SLAMDiabetes event, says it’s one of their favorite events of any kind during the school year. “Everyone comes together to make it so much fun and yet educational for the kids, their families and our community. Students, parents, teachers, and administration all get involved.

We’re excited to team up with SLAMDiabetes. We think it’s great they way they turn fun games like basketball and wiffle ball into educational opportunities and support for children with T1D and their families.”

The CT Sun’s Katie Douglas, a longtime WNBA star, will be attending the tournament to cheer on the kids and sign autographs.

Awards to top fundraisers will include 3-on-3 games at Mohegan Sun Arena on SLAMDiabetes Night, Thursday, July 2.
